Natural wines: 5 rooms (+1) for aficionados in Rome

Natural wines: 5 rooms (+1) for aficionados in Rome

The natural wine scene in Rome is very lively: we asked one of its representatives to advise us where to drink natural wines in the capital.

Some time ago we told you about Raisin : a user generated guide dedicated to producers of natural wines and to the places that serve them regularly. On the app, the map of Rome appears dotted with recommended restaurants, wine bars and wine bars.

The Roman scene of natural wine

Some are already known places, such as Les Vignerons , a true essential point of reference, together with Enoteca Bulzoni and Vigneto . Equally unmissable addresses are the twin restaurants Remigio and Barnaba , who pay particular attention to the small champagne artisans. Litro, Menabò and Caffè Propaganda are three  natural outposts respectively in Monteverde, Centocelle and Colosseo. Speaking of bistronomy , Epirus and Barred have made a very clear choice of field . Among the new openings, Jacopa     it is certainly the restaurant with the lowest sulphite content menu.

The places to discover

Another sign that one cannot help but mention is Enoteca La Mescita di Garbatella: a welcoming place, where you can taste one or more glasses, accompanied by a gastronomic proposal made with excellent raw materials. Real added value is the host Angelo Consorte who, with a contagious passion, guides customers in the choice of wines, among the hundreds he has selected from producers whose approach he shares. Those on the other side of the counter enjoy a privileged perspective, so we asked Angelo to indicate 5 addresses , beyond his restaurant, where he himself would go to drink or buy bottles: emerging realities or which, in his opinion , would deserve greater visibility.

  1. Fermentations – Natural Wines & Craft Beers (via Gandino, 16) After various experiences abroad and in Italy (including at Mazzo and alongside the producer Frank Cornelissen on Etna), Federico Maselli has taken over this place previously more suited to beers, including its selection of natural wines, available by the glass and to take away. In the coming months it will expand the part relating to food.
  2. Goccia – Permanent Refreshment (via Prenestina, 232). Opened in May 2019, this bistro adjacent to the Spazio Diamante theater is open from 10 am until dinner. In addition to natural wines, all the raw materials used in the kitchen are organic and purchased directly from the producers. On two levels, the room on the upper floor hosts musical and cultural events.
  3. Suspended Coffee (via Gentile da Mogliano, 172). At Pigneto there is Caffé Sospeso. It has been open for 3 years and has been under new management since September, which has changed the menu and expanded the wine list. The dishes are mainly made with zero km ingredients.
  4. O’wine (via Guido de Ruggiero, 64). The name is a nice Anglo-Italian pun, made even more explicit by the logo: a sheep carrying a bottle. Bistrot recently opened in the Montagnola district, according to Angelo Consorte promises very well. We will definitely keep an eye on it.
  5. Peccati Di… wines (via delle Albizzie, 12). It is not a new opening, on the contrary! Peccati a Centocelle is a wine shop that can already be defined as historic. Since 2001 it boasts a careful selection of natural wines, to be accompanied with gastronomic specialties linked to the territory
