How to make Salisbury steak

Introduction:

Salisbury steak is a savory and juicy dish that is made by mixing the ground beef and the other ingredients and is usually served with the Salisbury steak special gravy. It has its origin from the United States. Salisbury steak is usually served hot. So, In this article, we will discuss the recipe of the Salisbury steak along with its nutritional value.

RECIPE

Servings:

This recipe would yield about 12 servings. The serving size can be increased or decreased by managing the ingredients in that way.

The total time required for this recipe is 35 minutes including the 15 minutes of preparation and 20 minutes of cooking.

Ingredients:

For Meat mixture

  • 3 pounds of the ground beef, leaned
  • 1 cup of the breadcrumbs, seasoned
  • 2 tablespoons of ketchup
  • 4 teaspoons of the dry mustard
  • About 8 dashes of the Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cubes of beef bouillon
  • Salt and pepper just to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

 For Gravy

  • 2 whole onions in chopped form or thinly sliced
  • 4 cups of the beef broth or according to your preference
  • 2 tablespoons of ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons of the seasoning sauce
  • 8 dashes of the Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoon of the cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper just to taste

Directions for the procedure:

For meat mixture

  1. Take a bowl and mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, beef bouillon cubes, salt, and pepper. Knead the mixture until properly combined. Make about 8 to 12 oval patties and then make the lines on the patties so that the patties give a steak appearance.
  2. Then, take a skillet and put the butter and oil on it. Cook the patties over the medium to high heat from both sides so that the patties are no longer pink from the center. Then, remove the patties from the skillet and discard any excess fat if present.

For Gravy

  1. Prepare the gravy now. First of all, reduce the heat to medium and then add the sliced onions. Fry the onions until they are much softened and golden brown for several minutes.
  2. Then add the beef stock, ketchup, seasoning sauce and the Worcestershire. Then in a separate pot, combine the cornstarch with the little beef broth and mix it. Add this broth mixture to the preparing gravy and cook the gravy with the occasional stirring until it gets thickened.
  3. If you desire, add more broth to the gravy , So, if you want more thinning with the salt and pepper as per taste.
  4. After that, return the patties to the gravy. Then, put the gravy over the patties with the help of a spoon and let them simmer for a few minutes.
