The agents of the State Forestry Corps and the Agri-Food and Forestry Unit in two dairies in the province of Caserta have collected a rich loot of food wrappers with counterfeit brands. The counterfeiting, found in two batches of 2,000 and 15,000 wrappers, concerned the “mozzarella di bufala campana Dop ” trademark.
The inspection, carried out in collaboration with the Consortium for the protection of buffalo mozzarella from Campania Dop , was subjected to various dairies producing the famous fresh stretched curd cheese, as well as numerous retail outlets where the product was usually marketed.
Together with the wrappers with false labels, the operation led to the seizure of 300 kg of mozzarella ready to be sold: the crime of counterfeiting was charged to the owners of the points of sale in which a product (generic mozzarella) of a different quality was marketed. to what is presented on the identification signs (DOP buffalo mozzarella from Campania) and on the false packaging.
Other irregularities have been ascertained with respect to the bulk sale of mozzarella , prohibited by law except in the place of production and exceptionally admitted elsewhere only if the product was specially prepackaged at the origin.
